YCore Alum Board (YAB)

Want to support YCore and help ensure the organization, program and community thrives? This could be the opportunity for you!

  • Leading core projects to help advance our mission:

    1) Alum engagement: Hosting events for alum and their friends to stay involved with each other and community-based impact work in the Bay Area.

    2) Strategic projects: Support staff with strategic projects while working on a committee of 3-4 YAB-ers.

  • YAB typically has 15-20 members including two chairs (also alum) who run the meetings and oversee the success of the board. Staff will join the monthly meetings to listen in and provide context - other than that, this is completely run by you as a YAB-er.

  • 1) 1 year time commitment, with the option to extend.

    2) Fundraise for YCore (give or get, based on your ability)

    3) Organize at least 1 event for the alum community with your committee.

    4) Participate in YAB meetings monthly and contribute to brainstorms and activities.

    5) Stay engaged and proactively communicate when you can’t make something.

We know life happens sometimes: If you join YAB and can no longer make the time commitment, you can drop out but we still expect you to make your fundraising commitment.

Mentorship committee

Do you love supporting the success of others? Become a mentor and support future fellows on their projects.

  • Work closely with a YCore staff member to support fellows and project teams with their teamwork and nonprofit project. This could include attending team meetings and workshops to support your team as needed.

  • We typically take ~10 alum on to be project mentors. You will see each other during your monthly check ins with your staff point of contact and at workshops where mentors are required.

  • This is typically a lower time commitment compared to YAB.

    1) Monthly check ins with staff

    2) Attend 1-2 workshops, depending on the activities and needs of your project team.

    3) Mentor 1-2 project teams.

    4) 1 year commitment is ideal, but we can work with you on that if a year is not possible.

  • This is entirely up to you and your creative ideas for getting people to apply to YCore’s fellowship. Some ideas we would love to explore with you: host YCore staff or alum to speak to young professionals at your company, place YCore postcards in your local climbing gym or anywhere else that young professionals hang out, table at events, write a blog for our series “Behind the Y”, etc.

  • The structure is very flexible, so this is a good opportunity for alum who travel a lot and cannot maintain a consistent commitment required for the previous two opportunities.

YCore’s marketing staff will be your point of contact. We can communicate over slack or email and schedule calls as needed.

  • 1) At least 1 year, with the option to extend.

    2) Bring in 5 applicants 3x a year.

    3) Write at least 1 blog post for “Behind the Y”.

    4) Attend and bring friends to at least 2 YCore events/year

YCore Ambassadors

This is a new opportunity that is great for alum who enjoy promoting YCore to their networks (co-workers, friends, family etc).

Friendly reminder that alums can be YCore fellows again, so if you’re interested in recreating the magic of your fellowship you can apply for a future cohort. Head over to our Program page to see if we’re recruiting.
